The Foundation for Research Science and Technology (FRST) has contracted NERI to create a 'capability map' of NZ energy research across the research organisations. The intent is to compile in a single place: current and recent historical activity of researchers; approximate figures of public research funding allocated to each research activity; any active formal collaborations and notable highlights of research activity.

The result of this project is the NERI Capability Map.
